Youth Decay

All Hands on the Bad One, "Youth Decay"

I think this is a masterpiece of S-K song writing.  It starts at full speed with vocals from the first beat.  Snotty vocals, some sung, some talked, some ethereal in Riff 3, octave harmony in Riff 2.

But what about the non-vocals? It's got busy lead guitar at all times. The three bar chorus is rare in rock and as right as it sounds it always leaves me a little tilted.  (The Foo Fighters can do it too.)

Then comes Riff 3.  It starts with 2 bars of relative calm and quiet busy then twists around for 10 more bars.  The song is good enough without it but this riff makes it a home run. It took me a whole page to do it.

I sure hope I've done this well enough for you to figure out.

  • Quarter note = 164 or so.
  • Standard tuning.
  • Tabbed where it felt good on the fretboard but there are alternatives.
