Esther Metz

Here is the architect's name:

Esther Metz

The vacation house was built in 1923, "Mountain Top" is located in Cashiers, NC.

Originally designed for a Gennett of the Gennett Lumber Co in Asheville.

The original founders of that company are Andrew and Nat and there is a book published about Andrew who lived 1874 - 1942, "Sound Wormy".

It is currently owned by two sisters, Katherine Gennett Henry (Kiki) of La Jolla,CA and Anne G. Summers (husband Samuel) of Palm Beach, FL.

I met Anne who is the one who mentioned this architect and that Metz had been the first female architect in North Carolina. I do not know if she me(n)t first licensed or first to receive a degree in architecture or what.

I contacted a North Carolina architectural historian, Catherine W. Bishir  cbishir@mindspring.com, but she had no information to share and was of no help.

Everything seemed to lead to a dead end.

I would love to know if you find out any other info.
