Justin Peake
With twelve years of experience playing drums in a wide range of styles - free jazz, electronic, acoustic folk, traditional jazz, experimental - Justin Peake began writing, performing, and recording his own multi-instrumental compositions in 2004; assembling a remarkably diverse catalogue of electronic music.
One defining factor of Justin's music is that it tends to sidestep genre distinctions. "Folk music fused with free jazz and electronic experimentalism" is only one of the many ways that his sound could be described. His most recent release in 2006, Shorts for Shirts, teases listeners with oddly timed blips, spacious droning delays, and live drumming. His upcoming (2007) full length release will feature over an hour of steady grooves, showcasing the more laid back aspects of his musical roots.
As a younger musician, Peake studied philosophy of science and aesthetics, cognitive science, and music technology; an endeavor which has driven him to constantly refine and reinvent his frame of mind about live music and performance. He currently tours across the United States, performing under his own name, under the moniker 'Folkbot', and as a member of the free jazz ensemble South Chamber.
"Justin Peake plays drums and mixes acoustic and electronic free jazz while improvising around various sound samples and sound sources. Atlanta's GFE plays a vast and spacious blend of improvised rock and far-out jazz. Each number expands and contracts with celestial majesty and psychedelic power while clusters of rhythm and melody disassemble themselves in a haze of droning sonic clutter that's sometimes calm and sometimes chaotic."
