Night at Grady. This is an opportunity to hear about: ***Thursday, 7:00 p.m., theater -- Oberlin Jazz Band in concert. Tickets are $10. The Oberlin Band will spend time with the Grady Jazz Band on Thursday afternoon. A portion of the ticket price will be used to give the Oberlin Jazz Band a honorarium for their session with our band and their performance. Please come out to show your support! *** Magnet Coffee will be held on January 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in the media center. Since the size of this event has grown, we can no longer comfortably fit in a home. This is an informative meeting to provide prospective parents of eighth graders with details about the Communication Magnet. Flyers have gone to all of the middle schools. Parents with students in private schools may appreciate getting information about the coffee from their neighbors. This past weekend (January 4-5) the policy debate team of Joel Lemuel and Thi Lam competed at the Southern Bell Forum, an invitational tournament held each year at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. The tournament directors select seventy-two teams they consider to be the best in the nation, and they invite each of those schools to send their best team to participate. Needless to say, just being invited is an accomplishment. All of the teams competing are highly skilled and, because they choose to go to a tournament during their winter break, very dedicated. Based on their preliminary round record, Joel and Thi advanced to the octofinals, where they beat the team from duPont Manuel, and then to the quarterfinal round of competition (the final eight teams.) Sadly, they lost in that round to a team from Woodward, but they did get a Tournament of Champions bid, and the honor of competing in that elite company. Please congratulate them if you get the chance. ***Read the Grady Booster Club Sports news here: Help******************** ***The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is sponsoring a coat and blanket drive to run through January. Please send coats and/or blankets to Grady High, Room 108. Your generosity will be appreciated by those in need of warmth this cold winter. Calendar ************************** Friday, January 10
