1. To pre-sell tickets for the tailgate BBQ to be held on Sept 6.
Volunteers will sell tickets each morning 8:00 - 8:45 AM in the 10th
Street parking lot to parents dropping off students. Two volunteers are
needed for each day Mon - Fri, Aug 26 - 30. Please call or email Diane
Terrell at 404-892-0072 atlantaddt@aol.com.
2. The West End Rotary Club, sponsor of the GHS Interact Club, has an
international student who wants to attend Grady this year. In order to do
so, she needs a host family. The student is Odile Mugisha from Kigali,
Rwanda. She is 19 years old and will be taking her high school senior year
for the 2nd time, since she has already graduated from high school in
Rwanda. She's fluent in English and French and has taken two years
of German. She really wants to stay with a family with teenagers and
experience "American" high school. Rotary International will
fund her stay. Time is of the essence, so interested families should
contact Ms. Whitten at 404-325-5584 as soon as possible.
3. Volunteers needed to assemble back-to-school informational packets
Thursday Aug 15. Call Diane Terrell 404-892-0072 or email atlantaddt@aol.com

***The school dress code will be enforced this year to include
"no hats", "no spaghetti straps with or without a bra"
and "no low pants that show underwear". Details outlining the
dress code and consequences will be outlined in the Knight Lights. Parents
will need to monitor more closely the attire of their child before they
leave for school.
***Attendance policies regarding 10 or more absences will be
tightened to include possible loss of grade and exclusion from
graduation ceremonies for seniors. Look for further details in the Knight
Lights.

- 6:00 PM. The first meeting of the Grady High School Local
School Council. It is open to the public.
This is the first year that Grady will be implementing the Local
School Council. I'm sure that one of our priorities will be to
increase our profile and thus our effectiveness.
The Local School Council is an advisory body made up of two parents,
two teachers, two community business leaders, and the principal.
It is designed to apprise the school board of needed changes at
individual schools. It also brings together three distinctive
groups of stakeholders in order that they can discuss positive and
specific ways to better the overall school community. It should
be a great organ for specific and meaningful reform once it becomes a
more ingrained part of the decision making process.
- 6:00 P.M. Atlanta Board of Education Charter Review Commission
Meeting - Hearing for District 3 August 13th, 6-7 PM Inman
Auditorium
All the public hearings are city-wide in that anyone can come and
speak to the issues at hand. One issue is how the Board of Education
operates; specifically, how many board members we have, how they are
elected and term length. Few people are coming to the hearings.
Non-attendees miss the opportunity to voice their opinions.
The Inman community and the CINS community are encouraged to spread
the word and to attend these hearings. They are important in
helping the Commission hear from the public.
