Announcements *****************

***Interested in what goes on at Grady? Want to be in the know? Then get involved with the PTSA. That's what I did. I came to the monthly board meetings, I volunteered for a committee chair position (Teacher appreciation my first year and Secretary my second). I got involved, stayed informed and got to know Grady!

Now I am the PTSA President! Getting involved helped me to know my child's teachers, the principal (ask Dr Murray), staff, and the members of the PTSA. So get involved! It's the only way to be informed.

The Grady PTSA is looking for a few good parents to fill the following >committee chair positions:

  • Buildings and Grounds
  • Bylaws/Parliamentarian
  • Communications: Calendar( to compile dates from staff / PTSA etc.)
  • Knights Lights (Grady newsletter) Editor/Layout  Distribution
  • Family Involvement/School Spirit
  • Fundraising: Volunteer Coordinator
  • Media Center
  • Membership Co-Chair (data processing)

If you are interested in helping out or would like more information, please contact Jane Modica, Grady PTSA President, at 404-876-2152 or jmodica@bellsouth.net

Being involved = being informed.
Thanks,
Jane Modica

*** Elections for the Local School Council will be held Thursday, 5/20 from 7am to 7pm. All parents are encouraged to vote.  Local School Council nominations are being accepted through 5/19 for the Parent Representatives (there are two positions - two year commitment) on the Grady School Council. Nomination forms are in the school office. Parent/Guardian must have a child enrolled in the school. To vote: go up to the school & write down who your student is then you cast your ballot for one of the nominated candidates.

***Vision of the Future is an inspirational program held on Sunday, May 16th at 9:00am, in the Grady theatre, for all graduating seniors and their families. Ms. Milton and Ms. Porter work diligently with the seniors on content and rehearsals prior to Sunday. Last year it lasted a little over an hour and was a wonderful showcase of the senior class with all students participating. Refreshments following the program are provided by junior class parents. Traditionally, the time following the program is a relaxed social occasion which is conducive to visiting with the graduates and their families.

As was included in the letters to seniors, the dress requirement is conservatively styled white dresses for the girls and black slacks, black shoes and socks and a white dress shirt for the boys. Boys should wear their own ties of choice for the Visions program.

***Learner's Permit and Driver's License Documentation Requirements (especially for students with summer birthdays):

Students who plan to get a learner's permit this summer will need a certificate of school attendance. Students who plan to get a driver's license this summer will need both a certificate of attendance and an Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program certificate.

Certificates of Attendance and Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program certificates will be available for students for the summer starting May 10, 2004. Students are to apply for certificates in the mornings and pick them up in the Registrar's Office in the afternoon. Students having birthdays during the summer can also pick up their certificates early if they are eligible. The final deadline to apply for these certificates is Wednesday, May 19, 2004. Bring $2 for the notary fee.

***Students planning to participate in Grady athletics next fall need to have the new medical form completed over the summer by their own physician if they did not have a sports physical at the school in April or May. The athletic medical form may be obtained from their Coach or Coach Slade before the last day of school.
