Our Atlanta Beach House
Guide to the Southeastern Coasts

Home  Maps  Places  Departments  Let's eat!  About us

We love the beach and the coast
but we can only visit once a year.  So we built this site to cover the beaches within a reasonable driving distance from our home in Atlanta.  The maps and links on this site lead to all kinds of beach sites.  We dedicate it to landlocked beachcombers, like us, everywhere. Created July 15, 2000

Please visit our Hall of Fame before you leave.

Site Map  Here is what you can find at the beach house:

Maps  This site is mostly about maps of the beaches.  We have maps that can get you to the beach, but we really enjoy looking at maps of the beach itself.

Places  Our places pages overlap with the map pages but, who cares?

Departments  If the page isn't a map or a place, it must be a department.

  • Hall of Fame  Our list of superlatives.  You can find the sites we love and things we hate about the beach.
  • Beach Books  Our favorite beach books.
  • Beach Media  Radio, newspapers, and magazines about the beach.  You can find the Charleston News and Courier, and the  Apalachicola Times and every news paper in between.
  • Links  If we can't classify a beach site, we put it here.  You can find some nature sites, fish, and lighthouse information here.  Lots of odd sites such as the Virtual Sand Collection.
  • Log  We keep a complete log of changes we make to the site.

Let's eat!  Where do you like to eat at the beach?  This is a forum where you can post your own restaurant reviews.  If you know of a good place to buy fresh seafood, tell us about it.

Us  A little about us and the purpose (if any) of this site.

Work in progress: We want to build these out::  Beach CrittersFishingDriving to the BeachAncient Shorelines,  and Environmental links.

Fishing

Ancient shorelines  Archaeological and geological studies of sea level fluctuation along the South Carolina Coast suggest that over the past 20,000 years sea level may have risen as much as 330 ft (100 meters). At 10,000 ybp the coast may have been as much as 50 miles to the east. Within the past 2,000 years, sea level has fluctuated within a range of less than 12 ft.  See the cool but giant diagram ( 586 kb).

This is a good if big page about Florida geology.  It has good diagrams.
