Dear Mr Gregory

Although I came here direct from working for the PM in the International Division of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, I must admit I had missed the significance of the USS Canberra bell at the time (I had  not until a couple of days ago understood the direct connection between the naming of USS Canberra and HMAS Canberra, as opposed to the city of the same name!!).

If I may, I'll draw judiciously on this background though in suggesting to OAWG that there could be expected to be strong support at high levels for an HMAS Canberra memorial, and I'll let you know how I go.

Once again, all the very best personal good wishes for 2004,
Patrick Cole.
