Terry and Mac, Your web site is outstanding. Thank you very much for your efforts -- especially in the research of Count Felix Von Luckner. I have signed a contract with a major publisher here in the US to do a book on Von Luckner which will be out next spring. I saw a letter on your site that intrigued me -- the one from Keith Mickle dealing with Von I have been researching in the US National Archives and have unearthed a wealth of new data on Von Luckner and the crew of the Seeadler -- as well as his exploits in later life. I look forward to sharing this information with your readers as well. Thanks again! Blaine Pardoe
Thank you for your comments, we are always pleased to have feedback, especially if something has proven useful such as von Luckner. Indeed he was a remarkable character, and only one of a kind, I am sure. Interesting you are about to embark on writing a book on his life and exploits, please let me know when it does finally see the light of day, as I would want to get myself a copy of your labours. I have not kept the E-Mail address of Keith Mickle unfortunately, but he did move from New Zealand to our Gold Coast area here in Queensland, I am trying to find his address from the Telephone white pages published in Australia, if I find it, I will call him from Melbourne, ask for his E-Mail, pass it on to you, and also inform Keith that you may wish to contact him. Good luck with your proposed project. Regards, Dear Mac, My father served on the Canberra and I am trying to find out if he was on it at Savo. He was pretty lucky during his service, he joined the navy about 12 months before the war and was posted to Sydney after He was on the Canberra when it as doing escort duties up to SE asia. I do not know the full story yet but it is coming together bit by bit. My father died at the age of 55 on 27th Novermber 1972 from war related Regards,
Thank you for your E-Mail, I have attached your Dad's Certificate of Service from the Veteran's Affairs site which lists a million service people who served in WW2, you may or may not be aware of the site www.ww2roll.gov.au For details of your Dad's service you should write to the National Archives at PO Box 7425, Canberra Mail Service ACT 2600. Their Tel No. 02 6212 3600. They are on the web at : http://www.naa.gov.au I do not have a list of those who served in Canberra, just the list of the 84 who died that night on the 9th. of August 1942. By coincidence, in an hour or so I am off to a Canberra/Shropshire reunion lunch here in Melbourne, and I am the President of the Canberra/Shropshire Association here in Melbourne. Nice to hear from you, all the best. Mac.Gregory.
