* It wouldn't take a Katrina-sized storm to wreak havoc in the Big Bend. Hurricane Kate was a mid-level tropical storm when it hit Tallahassee in 1985. It brought the city to its knees for weeks with blocked roads and widespread utility outages. More than 5,500 homes were damaged, mostly by falling trees
* As hurricane season kicks into gear, Tallahassee's playground, St. George Island, is still recovering from last year's storms
* The Emergency Management Service in Wakulla has a better plan of action this hurricane season, including more alerts for residents who need to evacuate, a better plan of re-entry after the storm has passed and more meals and water for affected residents, said Emergency Management Director Joe Blanchard
