LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER
"Let The Good Times Roll"

April 4, 2002

The Cajun Georgian campaign of William Coit is picking up momentum, support, and money from concerned citizens of Georgia.  As I travel around the 13th District, I'm constantly reminded of the importance of electing a conservative, reform candidate to U.S. Congress. Just recently, a supporter in Spalding County gave me a campaign contribution and she said, "We Need you in Washington, DC and I will work to see you elected." This touched my heart as this lady believed in my message and was willing to contribute her time and money to my campaign.  It's the
grassroots support that will prevail in this election.

I participated in the following events this past week. Clayton County Ministers Conference, Henry County Republican Party, Republican Veterans of Georgia, and the Clayton County Rotary Club.

The text of William's speech to the Clayton County Ministers Conference is below.

William's Speech at the Clayton County Ministers Conference

Good morning Pastors, It is indeed a pleasure to speak with you this morning.  My name is William Coit, and I am a candidate for U.S. Congress in district 13.  I stand before you as a citizen who’s feed up with the political process and I decided to do something about it. My decision to run was an arduous process. I asked God to give me the strength to make the right decision and to provide me with a vision for the people of the 13th district.

The 13th district is composed of 11 counties. Butts, Clayton, Dekalb, Fayette, Fulton, Henry, Newton, Rockdale, Spalding, Gwinnett, and Walton counties. It’s 47% white, 42% black, 10% Hispanic, 1% Asian. It’s the most multi-cultural district in Georgia.

You may ask, who is William Coit and why should we support his campaign for congress. Well, I am from Franklin, Louisiana. A town of 10,000 people in the heart of Cajun Country. The present governor of Louisiana is from Franklin. The people of Franklin; primarily teachers, ministers, and my parents William and Pearl Coit are responsible for who I have become in life and will continue to shape my future.

I’m a graduate of Southern University, Baton Rouge with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. I’m a small business owner, an author of a book titled Corporate Welfare Reform: Saving American Taxpayers $125 Billion Dollars. I’ve worked in Washington, D.C. for U.S.Senator J. Bennett Johnson and as a volunteer in  West Africa where I helped build storage units for the production of cocoa.

I am guided by a core set of beliefs.

  1. Be honest and truthful with all of your interactions with people. Even when the truth will hurt.
  2. Respect the differences amongst the various cultures and look for common ground to unite us.
  3. Be a man of principles. If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.
  4. Take God with you wherever you may go in life. His strength will get you through the challenges that life presents to you.

Now as children we learned that honesty was the best policy. When we get older some people forget this lesson – they’re called politicians.

Mark Twain, once humorously called Congress, "America’s only native criminal class." We laugh, but when politicians campaign saying one thing and then do the opposite it assaults the very foundation of our representative democracy. How can the people control their government if they are lied to by those who go to Washington, DC to decide policy. How do know what they’re voting for.

If you have been following metro Atlanta politics the past year, you’ve probably noticed how money has played a part in influencing political officials. Look no further than the $360 million dollar contract to move dirt for a fifth runway at Hartsfield. Dirt contractor Ronnie Thornton pleaded guilty to violating federal banking laws while funneling illegal campaign contributions to the former mayor.

This type of behavior is unacceptable for people we have entrusted with carrying out the public’s work. We should expect our public officials to be held to a higher standard. Their moral integrity should not be questioned.

In the next couple of months, you will decide who will best represent the citizens of Clayton County. If you are happy with the status quo and you like the relationship that politicians have with those who contribute to their campaigns, Then I am not your candidate.

However, if you are concerned about the sanctity of marriage and reducing the divorce rate, minimizing the influence of money in politics, and restoring God’s principles and values in America, then I ask that you take a look at my candidacy.

I am the only candidate in this race that has created an 8 point empowerment plan, which outlines my legislative agenda for the 108th Congress.  Unlike most politicians, I’ve taken a stand on 70 issues before Congress. Please go to
