Security Alert 3-2-03
A possible scam in the neighborhood was recently reported by a sharp resident.
The scam involves a young man going door to door in the neighborhood during the evening. He purports to be soliciting funds for his soccer team. The youth used the name of Brad Kinnet and claimed to live around the corner. Most likely the name changes, as does the story.
He was then seen soliciting another person. When stories were compared, it seemed that "Brad" was now soliciting funds towards a book to benefit the Boys and Girls Club by selling books and magazines. The company was Ultimate Power Sales or United Family Circulation. The second person, being much more trusting, wrote a $30 check. Brad then moved on to another house. His approach was that the other neighbor gave him $60, so why not them as well. He can be very aggressive.
If you have written a check to an individual for this sort of "charity," you might want to consider canceling your check. This has all the earmarks of a scam that was run in Dunwoody and Cobb recently. It is likely that more than one person is out there soliciting funds.
If such an individual comes to your home, we strongly advise turning them away. But first, get a look at the person. Then call 911 and give them a good description and make sure they know your location. Then, and only then, contact the Morningside Security Patrol.
Thanks for your cooperation and to our alert neighbors.
Attempted Break-In An attempted break-in was reported by neighbors on Cumberland Road on Friday 2/28. Additional details are not available at this time.
Auto-Theft A resident's Jeep Cherokee was stolen the week of 2/17. I t was parked in front of his house on Noble Drive. Another car, owned by a visitor to his home, was stolen from approximately the same location about two months ago.
Again, call 911 to report any crime or suspicious activity, and then contact us at MLPA-MSP.
